I asked one technical person if, notwithstanding sturdiness, the JLC base was a "finer" movement, especially given that it . I have a Mark XII, EF limited Edition (EF are my initials). It's a wonderful watch. I was disappointed when the Mark XII was discontinued as it was a finer watch than the Mark XV due to the JLC movement instead of the ETA workhorse. That said, IWC reworked the ETA considerably. It's actually in my version of the Mark XII as well. Best of luck . Many will tell you that they prefer the JLC movement in the Mark XII over the IWC-modified ETA in the Mark XV, but I actually think the latter is better. The JLC movement is not as robust and not as well finished (IWC does a real number on the ETA while the JLC movement is supplied in rougher form). Fooget about it.

Size-wise, perfect at 9mm thick and 38mm across – 2mm up on the Mk XII. Helmets and goggles off to IWC for keeping these proportions reined-in over the ensuing years, despite contemporary tastes. This dynamic duo embarked on their plan to resurrect the Mark 11. Finally, in 1994, as the world stood on the cusp of a new millennium, the Mark XII was born amidst a flurry of uncertainty. The pre-digital phase, the dawn of email, and the shifting socio-economic landscape left many pondering the future.Mark XII - a 36mm beauty, with a JLC movement, but these are getting old now, apparently the servicing is very pricey too. Mark XV - 38.5mm and lovely too, with the RAF hand set. Mark XVI - 39mm, and the first to have the Flieger hands. I used to own one. Fabulous watch (but I want a change of scene now)
